"Seventh Heaven"
| |
Since it seems so quiet here the last few days, I thought I'd break the silence. I was so excited to find Seventh Heaven on store shelves again. It was one of the two books of Catherine's I hadn't read yet (Forever After is the other. Well, that and a few of the old out of print/impossible to find ones). I totally did not see coming the revelation about who had assaulted Marilee and why. Maybe I'm just a little slow to pick up on things, but I felt like I'd been clobbered with a brick at that point (much like Joe felt upon hearing it, I guess). I loved the book, of course. Anyone else just read it for the first time?

Seventh Heaven was one of my least favorite books. Two of my favorites are Simply Love and Always in my Heart. I just read "Always in My Heart" again for the third time so that I could remember what I liked about the son Zach whom I nominated for the supporting-cast-member reward. I laughed at both of them trying to convince themselves that they were over the other. Like when Tucker sees the boyfriend touch His ex, he tries to convince himself that he doesn't care though still visualizes what he would of done--Something like pulling his arms off and hitting him with the bloody ends. I just love understated romance. Simply Love was great because of the idea of someone who had been submerged in the worst this world can offer through birth and circumstance, being able to heal and come back into the light. Women really can influence a family and husband to greater spirituality simply through love. Luke certainly had some divine potential and he definitely turned into a CA hero. "Simply Love" was one of the rare books that when I am done reading it--I go back and read it again! Kerry |

I think we all have our favorites and least-favorites, and those choices will be as different as we are. Even in my personal favorites list, I can't really explain why I love some books more than others. For me, what sets Catherine's books apart from those of many other authors is that even if it's not my favorite, I never get bored reading. I've never been halfway through and walked away from one or struggled to finish it. It is still a page-turner and she always keeps me hanging on to see how it ends. There have been times when I started out not liking a book, and ended up loving it. Simply Love is one of those. Through most of the book, Luke seemed like a horrible guy and I wondered if this was the same Catherine who created so many other terrific heroes. But in the end, I thought Luke did redeem himself and show the true goodness inside of him. Beth |
