Congratulations Lee on your competition win.
I've just finished Windflowers and I didn't enjoy it as much as you ladies did.
It wasn't a bad yarn but it read to me like a bit of a soap opera and it was too predictable. It was just too long and drawn out for me.
Why did she need to tell us every time one of the characters had a smoke? They were either lighting a cigarette or pipe, smoking it or putting it out or emptying ash trays and it seemed that every character must have been a chain smoker
and I couldn't see why it had to be mentioned so many times.
And how many times did we need to know about the 'citrus yellow' wattle? Surely there are other ways to describe it!
I know I'm picky but these things just got on my nerves and slowed the story down for me.
And something else that really bugged me was her misspelling of Australian words. I had the same problem when I read Jacaranda Vines a couple of months ago but thought maybe it was just that the edition that I read hadn't been checked but now it's happened again in Windflowers so I have to assume that she's just got them wrong.
Anyway, as for the characters, I liked Aurelia best - even if she did smoke a pipe!
I've read 2 of her books now but I probably won't read any more.
The stories aren't bad but they are a bit too much like soap operas for my taste.
