"Twilight Series"

If you have read the Twilight books, what do you think of them? I have a friend who says that I MUST read them because they are great. I'm not a fan of vampire romance though. So, what's your opinion? Are they worth reading or not?

Laurie

Well Laurie, if you ask my 14 year old daughter she would say u absolutely MUST... She has loved every book... And has read them in a couple of days each one that is... She was not a reader... As most of the ladies on here know... Now her love of this series has grown to so many other books... I now have to buy her a Vampire book every fortnight...lol

As for me I haven't read them... I'm not into Vampire Books either...

They are good. Are they fantastic, amazing, out of this world? Not so much. I do like them, have them, and have actually re-read them. However, I do think the twilight series is over-rated. Stephenie Meyer is good at putting you into the minds of the characters, but they just seem a bit shallow at times. But that can be the nature of a teenage based book. I don't really know if I can recommend them or not. They do have an addictive quality to them, I found myself going out and buying the next book right away. I do occaisionally read supernatural books so that whole aspect wasn't a stretch for me.

I have tons of friends who would recommend these books in a heartbeat. They are way better books than the movies show. I dunno. I'm on the fence with these books. I would start with book one, and see where you go from there.

I love the twilight books and think they celbrate some of the finer qualities of humans such as self-control and self-sacrifice. Just like the Cullens who try to overcome their vampire natures and not kill human, we all strive to overcome the "natural man" and overcome aspects of our nature that are more self serving. Bella, the non-vampire who is the other half of the incredible love story represent alot the the quailities that I would love my teenagers to emulate--nuturing, putting others first, humility. Also so nice to have a romance that doesn't descend into the permissive sexual culture--chastity is difinitely another virture embedded in these emotionally rich and exciting stories.

I don't normally like supernatural romances either...just seems a little far fetched to me. My teenage daughter is completely in love with the "Twilight" series though.

When "Twilight" came out on dvd we had to buy it for her. She was so thrilled that she made us all sit down with her to watch it. I thought the movie was good but mostly it bugged me that I knew there would be a sequel and being that I'm not patient I had to read the books to see what would happen next.

I started with the first book and Stephanie Meyer's writing sucked me right in. "New Moon" was not a favorite to me but that was more my dislike of the storyline. The 3rd and 4th books were also very good. I've re-read the series and have since seen "New Moon" in the theaters and own the dvd and happily await the release of "Eclipse" in June.

So yes I would recommend it as a good read. It has a very innocent quiality about it which I think was a bit refreshing.

I have not read them but I know alot of people who have and love them. And I am talking about 'older' people. Some of them have seen all the movies too. I just may have to read them at some point...when I run out of other books.

I haven't read them, I'm not into the whole vampire/werewolf thing either. I prefer the Harry Potter books, I found those entertaining. I do have friends who like the Twilight books and they said you either love it or hate it.

I saw Twilight before I read any of the books. Needless to say, I loved it. I got a read all 4 books in 10 days. I own the 1st 2 dvds. The fact that it is about vampires and warewolves is of little importance to me. It is all about the love story. Which I adore. I do not agree that it is for just the younger generation. It has been me 36, my daugher 7 and my mother-in-law, in her 60's at them together. It is so funny when mom shows up and says let's go team jackob is here. I have seen the movies each twice. I go the first time and judge if my daughter can go. I don't know if she will be able to go to the next 2.

Oh yeah, back to the books. If you like a good love story, then you will like them. I loved these books. Did not care for the shrot story on Bree Tanner. That may have been becasue I knew how it was going to end.

I have read all the books about 3 years ago, and, well, if you are a teenager youŽll definitely like them, but if not, you will find them quite boring. First book is not that bad, but the rest of them are rather poor, at least for me. But of course, that depends of the person, some of my friends love them

I've read the Twilight books and have seen the movies. I have to say they're just alright. Its a great love story well told but aimed towards teenagers at 14/15 age range. Although I only started reading them when I turned 20. I honestly would suggest her other novel The Host. I read all four Twilight books then I read The Host and I absolutely loved The Host 10x more then Twilight! Its a beautiful love story that had me crying my eyes out at the end And I thought the characters were written better than in her other books. Highly recommend this book. If you do read the Twilight series I hope you enjoy them!

My daughter wouldn't stop nagging me until I read the first book (a few years ago). I ended up reading the first 3 books in around a week. I didn't like book 4, the final book in the series...I think the author lost the plot with that book! I was so disappointed - from what I read in the media many die-hard fans of the series were so disappointed with the last book they returned it to the bookseller!

As for the film - I saw the first movie and wouldn't sit through anymore! The books (at least books 1-3) were far better than the film. My daughters even commented about the acting being woeful and the movies not worth watching.

I read them all.
Lend the first one from a friend recomending it to me (he knows me and my taste very well), loved it and bought them all. I got disappointed from the second onwards.
Maybe that's because she wrote the first one being somewhat younger and still feeling like a teenager, I don't know, but the first differs a great deal in what you learn about the peoples feelings.
The last was the worst for me. I liked clumsy Bella Swan the way she was. Naturally it's kind of boring to see her becoming perfect all of a sudden.
You could read a free excerpt on her website first to try if you like it. There's a part of Twilight reversed to the point of view of Edward Cullen as a PDF-file.

I have tried twice to read them. First when they come out orginially, then second, when the movies came out. I couldn't even get past 100 pages. I thought her writing was....GAHHHHH so bad, and it didn't interest me at all. I think I am 1 of 4 people in my library that said the same thing. I am a big romance fan, but these books, I just felt the writing, even for a young adult novel, was very bad.

I rarely buy books, but I purchased all of Stephanie Myer's books. The waiting lists were too long at the library. Besides, my daughter and I have both read them multiple times.

We also love "The Host"--It really drew you in to an alternate reality and highlighted some of our "human" frailties while illuminating how we might become better souls. Talk about a love story that tests its characters--I'm sure I wouldn't want to endure half of it for love. She also does a good job of maternal love which can be equally irrational.

The first movie missed to boat--there was alot more humor in the book. Edward was highly entertained by Bella. The next two movies were much better. The scenery was worth the price of the movie (of course I live in the desert and am in awe of so much green). I dream of being up in a giant pine overlooking the mist laden river---leaping up there..aaaah.

There are few books I like better than these for escaping into a satisfying fantasy.
