"What's Everyone Reading"

Winter is coming, bringing tons of snow to our area, and I'd love to have some recommendations for good reads while I sit by the fire in the evening. Any suggestions, ladies?

I'm finally reading Here to Stay... I couldn't make my mind up if I wanted to keep collecting Catherine's books in paperback or on my ereader... My ereader won...lol

Catherine 2 really good suggestions for you are... Caroline Fyffe and Ruth Ann Nordin (Nebraska) Series... CF only has 3 books out but so worth reading...

BTW Check RAN web site for the Nebraska Series for order of books to be read... There all on ereader...

I hate hearing about animal abuse, but it goes on all over the world. Horses are big and well equipped enough to fight back, but so many animals are not. I can't imagine anyone abusing an animal any more than they would a child.

Your Not wrong Catherine... I had a dog who was abuse by a child mine u... I was so frighten of her as I had been bitten by the same bread of dog as Lady was... But u know as soon as Lady was put in my arms it was like she knew she had finally found a home with us... She was 2 when I got her and we unfortunately had to have her put down at age 14... She had a good life with us... She has been gone now for nearly 16 years and u know it still makes me angry that these people alloud there child to swing her by her tail etc... She was so frighten of kids that she didn't like them...

There's no excuse for abuse where animals or humans etc are concern...

I could not agree with you more. Abusing a child or an animal is the act of a coward and a bully. I hope that came across clearly in "Here To Stay."

If you are looking for a good read this winter i have a suggestion. Michelle Willingham. Read her irish warrior series, brilliant i lvoed each one i serioulsy did. And there are not many men that can compare to the Coulter boys(well especially my jake) but i loved them. If you go on her website you can see the right order. She is now doing a scottish warrior series i wil be buying.

With animal abuse, my dad found a rabbit wrapped in a carrier bag dumped in a field. The little rabbit called lucky charlie now has a loving home with me. And my brother in law. found someone abusing a cat and then threw it over a wall. My brother in law went absolutely mad and chased them off. He rescued the cat and is now caring for it until it can have a new home. It has special needs and it is hard to keep the dog away from it as the dog loves cats.I cried when i saw him. My brother in law was in the papers and the people who did this were caught. We are waiting for someone special to take him in he is very skittish and cannot be around other animals or children. Bless him. Us as humans abuse everything around us the earth and the creatures on it. It is about time we got some of our humanity back.

Lee, I'm glad the message came through loud and clear. I am a huge animal lover and I'd love to adopt every unwanted pet in the world, if I could. I've mentioned this several times, and m husband always looks slightly alarmed. He's been married to me long enough to know I'd seriously consider doing it!

Kudoes to your brother-in-law from me, Michelle. The world needs more people like him, who aren't afraid to get involved, to help the helpless.

I have recently been reading some of Christina Dodd's novels. I like her historicals best. I also have enjoyed some novels by Linda Howard. She often writes about military men who meet their soulmates in dangerous circumstances. Some of her novels are too short for my taste, but they all draw you in. Her lastest "Prey" was about a couple of wilderness guides with a horrible, people-eating, black bear in it. Some of the narrative was written in the point of view of the bear. It gives me chills just thinking about it.

I have read books by both Christina Dodd and Linda Howard, though not the one about the bear! I admire the work of both. What other authors do you enjoy?

I've read a few historical westerns by Carolyn Davidson that were really good - Oklahoma Sweetheart and Eden. She's a Harlequin author, though not very famous from what I can tell.

I to love Carolyn Davidson she is great...

What about Cheryl St John (they are a little Christianie) but are still very good...

Do u have an ereader Michelle??? If so have a look at Ruth Ann Nordin Nebraska(SP???) Series... All very good... Some of these books are free some u have to pay for... But aren't expensive...

Linda Howard is another good one...

I have been reading alot of children's pictures books about disablilites and reviewing them on Goodreads.com.

There are a few older books I have re read because they are on my favorites list. The Texas Leigh Brothers series by Lorraine Heath; the Gamble by LaVryle Spencer; and Two Texas Heart by Jodi Thomas.

Michelle, it really is a shame u don't have an ereader... Living outside of American as u would know is very hard to get a lot of the books we want... I have found with having an E that I am able to get my hands on a lot more books than I would have with out having one... In the year that I have had mine I have read some really really good books...

I do know how u feel about liking the feel of a paperback... Hopefully one day u will change your mind...lol

I was a little dubious about reading a book using an electronic device rather than holding a book in my hands, but now I love it. I still want copies of my favorite books, and I don't see that changing, but if I need a book for research or I'm just curious, it is a huge time saver to be able to pick up the Kindle and go for it.

If you're not sure you'll like using an electronic device or can't afford one, like me, both the Kindle and the Barnes and Noble Nook have free software you can download to read books on your computer. Obviously, it doesn't have the portability of the actual Kindle or Nook, but you get a feel for how the format looks/works.

Like Catherine, I find I actually prefer the electronic format for research/reference books. I still prefer hard copies of my romances and other novels. A lot of romance authors are starting to release "e-book only" novellas, and the free software works great for that.

Susan Mallery posted an article from USA Today on Facebook a few days ago that said for 35 of the top 50 books on the best sellers list, the electronic version of the book has outsold the hard copy version. Whether we like it or not, it looks like electronic readers are here to stay!

Despite the popularity of e-books, I think it will be a long time before hard copies go away.

Michelle, I think if someone's not a "book person", they just don't understand. I had a flood in my house last month, and my two giant bookcases had to be emptied so they could be moved to a dry section of the house. The neighbors who were helping me move the furniture sort of scratched their heads and said "Uh, I guess we'll come back later when you have all these books boxed up." I felt sort of like a hoarder or something.

I've been thinking about getting an Ipad. I think you can read books on those also--very similar to in kindle. Then you can also log on to facebook and play scrabble or answer your email. I am not very computer savvy but I am slowly becoming addicted.

There is a medical site called "Inspire" where you can discuss issues surrounding various disorders. My daughter was recently diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis (NF) and I have really learned alot about her condition participating in discussions online. Right now she is going through chemotherapy for one of her tumors and it gives me a place to vent my feelings about this somewhat, in my opinion, barbaric treatment.

Anyway, the new ipad a supposedly much less expensive than the last generation. It might be wise to invested in that rather than a nook or kindle.

I'm reading A Candle In A Window by Jillian Hart...

Michelle have u tryed Jillian Hart she does Western...

I've now read all bar 2 of the Ruth Ann Nordin books... And if you are after some great reads check her out... Unfortunately u can only get her books on ereaders...

And be careful if u buy any books from Smashwords... Twice I have been charge for the same books... Once via Paypal and the other through my Bank Acc... I won't be buying through them again... I have sent msg to P/P and they have no idea... I couldn't get them to understand what had happen... In the end they stop replying... I can understand it happening once but not twice...
