"What is your favorite novel by a male author?"
|
I wonder if men really do romance well. My favorite books by males that I have read have romance but not as the main focus. The Bourne Identity, by Robert Ludlum Not at all like the movie, Jason and Marie's connections is great. Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card. Though you have to read the sequels to get to the romance, I really enjoyed the emotional depth of this one. I can't think of any more books I really enjoyed by men. Is there a dearth of good romances/novels by men? |

Hello, I haven't found men to be very romantic in their writing but I do read Stephen King, Dean Koontz, James Patterson and some Lee Child. Mostly I read women authors from Catherine Anderson, Julie Garwood, J.R. Ward, Christine Feehan, Fern Michaels, Nora Roberts, Catherine Coulter and many more. I think my favorite type of read is a romance and/or romantic suspense that is in series form where you get to know characters from one book to the next. It might sound weird but they become a family of sorts that you really want to know more about in the next book. Terri |

LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-10 AT 03:16 AM (EST) Welcome Terri from me too. Nice to meet you and you have a good choice of authors.I have read a few male authors and enjoyed them but you girls probably wouldnt know them. I do like Nicholas Sparks books and movies despite being sad they are great stories and really get me involved. He is my daughter-in-laws favourite author and she talks about him all the time. I swear she is in love with him lol. The other night she was in bed reading one of his books and crying, my son comes in and sees her red eyes and wonders what is going on. He soon sees its the book she is reading and tells her "i think you shouldnt read his books i hate seeing you crying like this" Men!!! Dont they get it, we love a good cry now and then. She never reads his books on the train on her way to and from work hehehe. Kathy |

Tim Winton would have to be my favourite male author. I particularly enjoyed his books "Cloudstreet" and "Dirt Music". He has a series for younger readers (Lochie Leonard series) as well which is very good. Some of the books from this series are studied for English in the junior years and reluctant readers enjoy them which is great. I also enjoy reading Alex Miller books especially "Journey to the Stone Country" Both of the above authors are Australian. Dianne, Australia |
